About Folk Style Wrestling "Chidaoba"

Chidaoba is an ancient type of wrestling that was invented by the people of Republic of Georgia. It emphasizes the use of arms and legs to off-balance and throw the opponent onto the ground. Chidaoba uses leg sweeps and hand/body throws while touching the legs via the hands is forbidden. The main goal in Chidaoba is to place your opponent onto his back using a variety of techniques. Chidaoba's history is very rich and many of its techniques have been incorporated into modern martial arts like Sport Judo and Sport/Combat Sambo. Thousands of Georgians begin training at an early age thus the competition within the country is fierce. To become a champion in Chidaoba is extremely hard and very prestigious.
